Fernando Sanchez-Arias

Human Resources Direction, in charge of Learning & Development

With almost 30 years of experience in global business & people strategy, leadership & talent development, organizational design & development, and cultural intelligence, Fernando has been leading, speaking, training, coaching and building alliances in more than 70 countries. He currently is part of The Home Depot, acting as the Chief People Officer of Global Custom Commerce and HR Director of THD Marketing/Online.

Before joining the US retail leader, he worked as Corporate Director and Chief Learning Officer of LUKIVEN Energy & Business Group, an oil & gas, real state, construction and corporate education group. He co-cofounded UCEN, the corporate university of this business group. His passion for continuous improvement helped him to start MEJORAR, an international research, learning and development center for leaders, organizations and communities.

He holds a Magna Cum Laude university degree in Business Administration, with a major in Organization & Methods, is a Certified Executive Coach by the Monterrey Institute of Technology (ITESM) and Newfield Consulting, and an International Training Fellow (No. 31) of the JCI University. He served as member of the Board of Directors of the Association for Talent Development - ATD (formerly ASTD) and was the 59th World President of Junior Chamber International (JCI). He is currently part of the Wharton School/Graduate School of Education Work-based Learning Leadership Doctoral Program at the University of Pennsylvania (known as the PennCLO Executive Doctoral Program).

Tackling Challenges with Grace:  Three Ways to Become More Resilient - Jennifer Bashant

The purpose of this session is to raise awareness about the importance of resilience in the workplace, and how it positively impacts the culture and the company's bottom line. Learning objectives:

  • Define resilience and the key role it plays in terms of employee wellness and productivity
  • Describe three, research-based ways that employees can increase their resilience
  • Describe the steps companies can take to develop a culture which encourages resilience. Participants will take home a self-care plan, a burnout survey and a compilation of practical resources that can be used with employees. This workshop is based on cutting edge research and is designed to encourage discussion between participants through meaningful activities to enhance learning.

Jennifer L. Bashant, Ph.D, LMSW, MA, Founder of Building Better Futures, LLC, is a trainer and consultant for schools and corporations across the country. Jennifer earned a Ph.D. and MSW from the University at Albany, and prior to being a trainer and consultant, she has worked as a research scientist and as a clinician.

Dr. Bashant's mission is to strengthen companies and institutional organizations by improving communication, decreasing work stress and burnout, and creating positive work environments which lead to highly engaged and motivated employees. As a facilitator of adult learning, she believes that professional development should be interactive and collaborative, and her goal is for participants to leave feeling energized and excited to try something new, or to see things through a different lens!

Dr. Bashant is certified as an EQ-I 2.0 (Emotional Intelligence) and DiSC Leadership and Workstyles trainer. She uses these assessments to help foster self-awareness and to strengthen teams and companies. Dr. Bashant is also a Mindfulness Coach and she uses her expertise in this area to help employees learn how to decrease stress from work and home, to create calmer work environments and happier, more resilient employees.

Khamali Brown is a trainer, facilitator, and business coach with 15+ years of business experience mentoring and coaching individuals to achieve their goals. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Utica College and worked at the NYS Department of Health, AIDS Institute for 9 years. Five of those years she worked in Education and Training where she assisted with curriculum development and facilitation of statewide training. Khamali joined Dale Carnegie of NENY in January of 2016 and is now a certified Dale Carnegie Instructor training individuals and corporate teams on leadership, interpersonal communication, coaching, presentation skills, and more.

In this session, you will learn from 25 years experience, how to interject fun and excitement into your training programs and presentations. Gain a better understanding of how you can create and maintain an invigorating and receptive learning environment. Getting the bored, reluctant, and "know-it-all" participant interested and involved is often a challenge for presenters and trainers. Join us for this highly interactive session. I'll demonstrate, as well as provide a forum for discussing easy and useful techniques to get the "whole" learner engaged!  Participants will:

  • Increase the quantity and quality of participant involvement, ultimately enhancing the learning experience
  • Learn why creativity and participation helps retention, and future utilization of the training content

Joan Hebert, MBA, MS, principal of Hebert Performance Training, (est. 1997) specializes in customer service, leadership, presentation and training skills, team building, customer-focused sales, and workplace communication skills. Ann Marie Morris is a talent management expert with over 25 years of experience in design and delivery of training, organizational change and employee engagement. Her industry experience spans financial services, media, entertainment, technology and start-ups. Ann Marie has served in organizational development and training roles at Credit Suisse, Fidessa, Interpublic, Sony Music and JPMorgan Chase. She is most proud of her work in guiding her teams to tell a story. She is currently re-imagining on-boarding so it is not a hostage crisis. She’s challenged the groups to create Oscar-worthy shorts that make learning fun, engaging and just in time for even seasoned staff members. One Finance Team is making a horror movie trailer and (spoiler alert!) the CFO is battling a killer spreadsheet!


Ignite Inclusion:  How to Lead a Team with Inclusion and Belonging In Mind - Christine Ramsay

This session will cover how to more effectively leverage the overall knowledge of your organization to achieve goals.  Each individual has their own unique skill set and story to lend to their organization.  Leaders can tap into these differences to ignite ideas and play on strengths and opportunities.  Participants will learn:

Christine Ramsay’s life purpose is to create a sense of belonging and connectedness so people feel inspired, empowered, appreciated, valued, and loved.  She is a storyteller, a change agent, a connector, a visionary, and a humanist.

She is passionate about creating impactful change initiatives in Diversity and Inclusion, Leadership, and Talent and Change Management. She currently works for Bimbo Bakeries USA, a subsidiary of Grupo Bimbo, the largest baking manufacturing company in the world, leading and designing Diversity and Inclusion as well as Learning and Development transformational programs.

Prior to Bimbo Bakeries she worked for Sungard Availability Services, IT based Cloud Company, for 2 years where she led Employee Resource Groups and Talent Development programs globally.  These initiatives led Sungard Availability services to win the Stevie Gold Employer of the year awards in November of 2016 highlighting success of the newly created programs.

Prior to Sungard Availability Services, she worked for Whirlpool Corporation, the largest appliance manufacturer in the world, for 11 years her last role leading training strategy for the new business creation group called Go Unlimited LLC, a newly joint venture with P&G, to launch new to world innovative products in the marketplace.

In addition, she serves as the Autism Advocacy Ambassador for Pennsylvania for Autism Speaks, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of people with Autism.

A lifelong Philadelphian, Christine received her Bachelor’s in Marketing and International Business from Pennsylvania State University and is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in Human Resource Management from Villanova University.

She currently lives in Exton with her husband, Adrian and children Isabella and Zac.  Christine enjoys spending time with family, traveling all over the world, Armenian line dancing, playing and teaching classical piano, storytelling, and meeting new people from all different backgrounds.

Ryan, Director of Media & Insights, leads all paid media and analytics initiatives at Helen & Gertrude. Prior to Helen & Gertrude, Ryan began his career in the digital news industry, managing all digital media initiatives for an NBC/ABC affiliate with Nexstar Media Group. He then joined Butler/Till where he built a career in digital media planning and buying. He is also a member of the IAB Digital Media Buyer and Planner Certification Program Exam Committee.


Developing a Women's Leadership Program for Your Organization - Meghann Ryan

This presentation will introduce ways to develop and design a women’s leadership program for the participants’ individual organizations. The audience will brainstorm and interact with various topics ranging from gap analysis to content creation to delivery. By the end of the presentation, the group will draft a sample program – from the proposal stage through the certificate graduation ceremony! The facilitator will draw on her own experiences and share information from her own program. The Women’s Leadership Certificate Program at Univest Financial Corporation introduces and expands on topics essential to women’s leadership. Topics include: communication skills, leadership styles, gender roles, and women’s history. These topics are presented in a relevant, participant-focused way to encourage discussion. The program was developed after thorough company research and a needs assessment. Over sixty-percent of the corporation’s workforce is female, which allows the program to capture a population of future leaders and recognize the potential of those leaders within the company. This program will serve as an example as the audience applies these best practices to their own organization’s needs.  Participants will learn about:

  • Best practices for developing in-house certificate programs
  • The importance of women’s leadership in an organization
  • Brainstorming and measuring a company’s needs for a specific certificate program

Meghann Ryan is a media psychologist who currently works in corporate training at Univest Financial Corporation. Prior to joining Univest, she was a Professor of English at colleges in eastern Pennsylvania. Meghann earned master’s degrees in both English and Psychology. She is currently a doctoral candidate at Fielding Graduate University.

Meghann serves as a panelist for various conferences annually. Her work will be presented at upcoming conventions for the Far West American Culture Association, the American Psychological Association, the American and Popular Culture Association, and the Association for Psychological Science.

For the Summit, Meghann will discuss best practices for the audience to create their own women’s leadership programs based on her experiences. After assessing her company’s needs, she developed and delivered The Women’s Leadership Certificate Program. Now in its third cohort, the program represents each department within the corporation and awards company-based certificates to graduating participants. The program has received an outstanding reception from senior leadership and participants have reported higher levels of confidence and stronger relationships with the company.
